Or the mountain-bike, or the racer, or the old bike of grandpa. Name it whatever, I don’t care. It is a dream on two wheels.

If I can ride it, that’s what I care. And to listen the sound of the tyres on the road, this very specific k-r-r-rrrrrrr while you are pedalling (yep, I don’t mean the sound of not oiled chain ;-))

I decided to write something about the next best friend of the man after dog – the bike.
Personally I have deep feelings towards this invention of the humanity.

Pity, but soon after it was dicovered the man is trying with big application to forget the bike’s existence – because to ride a bike you should make an effort, and the effort is just that thing most people don’t like at all and do not want to do ever if possible.

I want though. And I am riding – struggling against the non-popularity of this machine in my urban environment.
Some time ago I read an article about Ken Livingston – the Mayor of London. He’s got a plan for the development of the city in the next ten years. According to this plan, till year 2010 80% of the citizens in London should use mainly bicycles, not cars or public transport.

I really need to believe that something can make people to leave their speedy two-tons fortresses and not be in such a hurry to kill somebody by accident.

Alas, my native reality only proves, that such an images are pure Utopian – the main priority for the municipality and also for the Chief architect of the capital (not to mention the 90% of the people) is still His Majesty The CAR, enforced dictatorship over every empty space around.

Now please, don’t think that I don’t like cars. Right the opposite, but this is not the point. If one day I decide to have a car, most probably I will use it only for big trips outside of the city.

Truth is, we don’t remember anymore what was that – the simple joy of moving.
We are driving passively in the cars or changing the gears, passively staring the tv, passively snoozing in the offices.

Our activity shows up only transformed in agression and very, very rare you can hear somebody saying: “Ooooh, last Sunday I’ve made a big, exhasuting bicycle trip, but I feel so alive and happy then and I slept like a baby then”. And this said with big satisfied smile…

I really wish to see more people in Sofia riding a bicycle and the others around to act like this is something normal. Some time ago I saw a small video from The Netherlands – father is riding in peace on the streets, with small trailer with wheels in the front and with his two little children in it.

Do you know how long this guy will stay alive if do the same lifestyle here, in Sofia?
Here you are a song to illustrate the topic (a little bit old-fashioned, like me;-)).

P.S.
