Lovebirds – making of

Става въпрос за тези малки птички:
It’s all about these little birds:

Yes, I know that like the meerkats, the lovebirds also look better without the final varnish, but still cannot find a better way to preserve them.

Lovebirds

Saturday, July 3rd, 2010

I made them as a gift for a nice couple – good friends of mine.

Lovebirds

The tom-tit fell in love with the robin and they decided to live together.

Lovebirds

They chose a branch of floating wood from the sea, to remind them of all the travels they dream to make.

(I was looking to upload the photos from the process of making, because I thought it would be interesting, but when you postpone something for too long, it’s getting hard to find it…)

Monstrous!

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

I’ve got a list with favorite illustrators, but there is one that always manage to move me with her style, characters and colors. Monica Calvo’s artwork is a true source of inspiration and beauty.

Some of her illustrations were frequent guest on my desktop during the last few years, and this one never fails to cheer me up:

Monica's funny monsters

I do not know what kind of technique she uses, but the result is always adorable.

It may seem not related, but actually it is: Adobe Fireworks CS5 is already released.

Because I love this particular piece of software and I use it for quite a long time, I think I am able to recommend it to anyone who needs a great tool for web design and illustrations. I had the honor to be a beta-tester for this version and so it happens that I know for sure – it is really stable and full of surprises.

One of the new options was appealing to me – the Compound shapes. I wanted to try it immediately and start playing with some ideas, having Monica’s monsters before my eyes. That’s how my strange little creatures came out:

My stupid creatures

Well, at least they are brave – trying to scare away even the flies, which are famous of being impertinent and fearless… ;-)

Meerkat Manor

Monday, April 5th, 2010

I guess it’s hardly left anyone on Earth not knowing what kind of animals are the meerkats (Suricata suricatta).
Surely big part of the human population is familiar with the famous Animal Planet’s sequel.

The meerkats

Few weeks ago a friend of mine asked me if I will accept an order to make some clay figures. He wanted to make a surprise gift to his girlfriend, which apparently is a great fan of these lovely animals.

And because meerkats usually live together in families, the only condition was to make more than two figures.

The meerkats

Finally, I made five of them. I am proud to present them to you:

As far as I know, the receiver is very happy with them. And so do I, since the making was such a big pleasure to me. :-)

Beer mouse

Saturday, April 3rd, 2010

It was about time to show this little mouse to you. I’ve made it almost two years ago, especially for Michel to illustrate his attitude to beer. :-)

It’s sketched in Adobe Flash, with my lovely Wacom tablet.

The Beer mouse

Then I’ve changed and colored it and that was the result:

The Beer mouse

It’s a common guest on our desktops.

And just because I really like illustrations over photos (like these, for a good example), here is another favorite version of mine:

Egg… or hen

Easter egg

In this case – the egg came first. I painted it with onion layers.
Wanted it to be all natural this time.
You can see how to made the hen from here – Krokotak.

The second egg wanted a different decoration, so it is – with plum blossom:

Easter egg-2

More eggs will be dyed this Saturday. :-)

Kunstdrom :-)

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

I found recently an interesting (at least to me) artist and I cannot resist to promote him here a bit.
I already am the happy owner of these little gems:

Mad About You
Mad About You
и
Instinct
Mad About You

At first I guessed that Kunstdrom is just a nickname. In his online shop the author – Nikolay Petkov is saying about his own work:
“Kunstdrom is a unique blend of digital drawings and illustrations, an extraordinary mixture of neo-expressionism, pop art and Japanese comics. “. He travels a lot, speaks several languages and currently is studying Japanese.
Then I wanted to learn a bit more and I found that Kunstdrom has developed into a bigger art-project – a project for publishing digital art from Bulgarian artists. The focus is building digital galleries for iPhone/iPod, but also promoting the authors for printing products over online print-shops. Very soon prints would be able to be ordered directly from kunstdrom.com.

If you have an iPhone, you can download FREE Niki’s paintings from here.

P.S. I just heard that in the middle of March a second gallery for iPhone is going to be online and it promise to be even sexier. ;-)

Christmas wallpapers

Made some wallpapers for the online magazine I work for. The magazine is for healthy lifestyle and fitness and is called BB-Team.

BB-Team keeps Santa in good shape ;-) ):

The snowmen are also very motivated

Do you think your dog is fed properly?

If you like what you see, you can download them for free from here . :-)
BB-Team are good partners and friends, it’s pleasure to draw for them.

Faith No More – Spirit of Bourgas [videos]

Friday, August 28th, 2009

Reunited…
They are BIG, you know?
I thought the concert will never finish. Song after song, FNM were there on the beach of Bourgas, excellence beyond all expectations. All of them perfect, Mike Patton himself – unbelievable!
This time, I cannot say too much. It’s like this when you are simply happy. :-)
It was so beautiful while sometimes his shadow was projected over the giant trees near the stage… Hope somebody took a good picture of this.
The Man With Thousand Voices – he knows perfectly how to please the audience.

Magic Memory Box

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

I am thinking about making such an exploding gift box for years.
It’s called “exploding”, which is quite an exaggeration, of course. Nothing to explode, though, only very nice effect on opening. :-)

magic box

I saw the idea on this website two or three years ago, but just bookmarked it then. Obviously the right moment to make it was the other day, when I finally decided to give it a try. The reason was the birthday of a very special friend, so I sat and started work.

magic box

There are people able to make it for less than an hour, but with me that’s definitely not the case.
The details took me a lot of time, because I really wanted it to be an exquisite one.

magic box

Well, I won’t say how long it took me to finish it, but it was worthy.

magic box

The recipient liked it very much and even said:

The best present! :-) It radiates the love that was made with! :-)

Hey, It’s wonderful to hear something like this! ;-)
