House by the sea

Saturday, August 9th, 2008

Maybe many people feel the same, but my fingers just cannot stay without doing something.

Whatever thing I spot, I always start to think that it could be turned into something else, usually some kind of toy (although sometimes it happens to be also something useful).
:-)
In the Sea garden in Bourgas there are some trees (we have them in Sofia as well), but unfortunately I never can remember their name. They have leaves a bit like the maple, thorny little ball-shaped fruits (which are not good to eat) and beautiful light rind.

The pieces of rind are tempting, they look to me like ready to use slices of veneer. I have used them before to make freakish greetings (it works also with pine-tree rind)q but now during the short vacation I did this funny little house:

=Little house...

It has owners, although are a bit carelessly. It will be obviously windy there during the winter, but they just don’t care.

... from tree rind

They love each other and are happy together. They have He-dog and She-cat.

They arevery hospitable

They decided to live in Bourgas, by the sea. There they feel happier and free.

And if sometimes they feel a little bored, they listen to the music of the wind, who is playing with these sea shells:

Sea bells

… it seems that the shells are telling stories about all the amazing things and great secrets, hidden in the Big water…

The sea is talking

Cat stories

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

Hmm, this one is more “looking like a cat” than being a cat indeed.

So self-confident

He is very positive, always smiling to the world.

Full with hope and faith

He is never in a bad mood, likes the sun and enjoys the rain, too.
Respects typography, but from few days is trying to read all these Love Stories. Especially likes the one with the cake and the sugar.:-)

Wish I was so positive

He is looking for Love and new friends, so he is wearing this heart everywhere – as a friendly sign and to be sure that this time he won’t be misunderstood.

Sometimes...everybody needs somebody to hug him and tell him that everything will be just fine

This guy was also my first try with white clay from the sort that dries without baking. But I still prefer to work with the old natural brown clay. :-)

In honour of the favorite browser – Firefox

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

After the mass Firefox download lately /fighting for a world record/, I decide that it is in fact a good moment to show you this:

Firefox logo from clay

I’ve made it about year and a half ago, but It was finished this January (and you can see it today, which is… yes, yes, I know the date, please, don’t remind me…)
There’s a magnet on the back, only… I didn’t weight very well the clay logo itself and now you can put it somewhere only if you use another magnet, bigger one. Next time – better try. :-)

Firefox logo again

However, I am not so good as to invent it and design it like his author did, but still I believe it is not so bad. :-)

The clay cat

Monday, August 4th, 2008

Here’s what happened with this guy after dyeing. I’m not quite sure If I like it more now or before, but however, it’s too late to hesitate.

The clay tomcat

Indeed, it’s likeable now, in its own way somehow. It was year and a half lingering, till finally I decided to finish it. Not bad, actually?

At least is photogenic cat

Slowly… like the snails

The next few blog posts will be mainly with pictures. I brushed out the dust from what I’ve got to show and take the big decision of not! procrastinate! anymore!

In my defense will say only that I didn’t have good enough photos and it was a shame to upload crappy ones here. Then we lost the hard disk and the few good photos are gone so far.

But three days ago I have success with catching the best light – late sunset, which is adorable, but hardly impossible to see in north apartment. So I made quickly part of the photos that I wanted to.
For a start, here it is, a snail-optimist, fruit of co-operative work:

Positive-thinking snail

Actually, Michel is always jumping around while I am making something, and he is repeating that he cannot do such things even in his dreams.

A different view

In fact, he was totally awake when he made this snail, and I think he did it just great. My touch are only the horns with eyes and the coloring, but from all the little things at home, this snail is one of particularly special! :-)

Tasty small loafs of bread

Sunday, August 3rd, 2008

Few weeks ago I decided to do some tasty little loafs of bread, using the simplest recipe in the world. Flour, yeast, little spoon salt and another one sugar, some warm water and mix everything together. This is also wonderful mix for making pizza dough. I used full-corn flour sesame, poppy-seed, sunflower seed, some white cheese and sliced olives and finally, it came like this:

The very tasty bread loafs

We’ve tried them together in the good company of some friends, and all we decided that this is actually very tasty. It also goes very well with beer… :-)

Irresistible composition

Besides, recently during our stay in Bourgas I wanted to repeat the recipe, only with some slight modifications:

Some more and a bit different

This time we didn’t have full-corn flour, so I used white one, and inside I put again white cheese, but also yellow one and two sorts of olives, black and green with almonds.

These are the best loafs

Well, I am not sure how they are making today the bread that you can buy in the store, but it becomes mouldy on the second day yet.
But anyway, the last two of our bread loafs we ate three days later and they were still soft and fresh. :-)

Beautiful… as a potato ;-)

Saturday, August 2nd, 2008

Half a year ago, my lovely and unpredictable better-half gave me such a greeting card.

I laughed out loudly, when I first saw it, and it is still on a very honorable place at home. Sometimes I look at it and I smile (mostly because of the comparison).

Edward Monkton’s cards are all wonderful, actually. Look at them closely.

My potatoes’ affection, though, won’t stop just like that. Here is one, adopted recently:

Pretending he's only smelling the cactus

Just look at his placid face, but don’t trust him too much…

His last photo, then he went to dinner, pardon me, to the dinner... ;-)

Turn my back for only two minutes, and he’ll probably eat the whole cactus… :-)

Presto

Friends are something very nice.

Even when you are so stuck with work, that you cannot pronounce your own name, you can always rely on somebody’s unexpected help. Good to be reminded that you are supposed to breathe and to look from time to time far from your nose…

Many thanks to Nixo, who innocently sent me today a link to this amazing Pixar video.

Enjoy it, all of you, not-lifting-eyes-from-work robots like me. It will take you no more than the time you need to smoke a cigarette. Only much more pleasant. :-)

Paper Magic

Friday, March 28th, 2008

One need only to have nervous fingers and five minutes rest…to start doing something from paper. I’ve started to make these little angels last year in November in the office.
Few colleagues still have some to make them smile. And even artishock got one. :-)

paper angel

I love to remind to myself, that life is not only work. I left this cup with stars in my ex-office, only completely full. ;-)

handful of stars

These are very easy to make…if you like them, see how-to. Warning: once you start, you may never stop. :-)

that's what the quiet madmen do

One very special and fairy girl recently showed to me how to make this flower:

Peony, almost real

There is more to show, but next time. :-)

Happy Easter!

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

We’ve made our eggs yesterday…They look nice, even if only few, but initially I thought they were a bit… too anonymous. So, finally, most of them received personality. Happy Easter!:-)
