Stone with personality

Greetings from the sea… and I had to say goodbye today, but this is something that I always do with heavy heart…

Simon’s Cat

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

Recently, while I was busy to show off my little clay army here, my favorite illustrator Monica Calvo found the latest funny video from the sequel Simon’s Cat:

Distinguish animation, every time I watch in dismay and with great pleasure!
If you happen not to be familiar with the previous two videos, I can remind them to you easily:

1. ‘Cat Man Do’

2. ‘Let Me In!’

They are very indicative of the cat’s temper…
And also these days I read this joke:

“I am absolutely not able to understand why women love cats.
Cats are independent creatures, they don’t obey and perform, not coming when you call them, they love to linger outside in the night and to come home only to be fed and cuddled.
After that they only want to be left to sleep in peace.
In other word: in cats women love something that they terribly hate in men… “

There is some truth in this… but also there are people, who just don’t like cats at all. ;-)

The little singing rabbit

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

When he was a kid, he used to sing in the choir,

The singing rabbit

but nowadays he is dreaming for opera. Plays old gramophone records and sings with them.

Singing with open heart

He has read “The book for the opera” and knows all the Giuseppe Verdi’s librettos by heart. But he is too shy and prefers to sing only at home. When he feels bold, he opens the window. :-)

He cannot stop, it is coming so natural

The neighbors are not angry, because he actually sings very gently.

Strange, cats seems never-ending here :-)

I guess there are subjects and things that just gets me obsessed from time to time and something is making me going on in the same direction.
About fifteen or sixteen years ago, when I became friends with the clay for the first time, who knows why, but I started to make fairy dwarfs and small wizards. Most of them I gave to a friends almost immediately, but still have half a score at home, which i considered not good enough for a present.

In the last few years I have less and less free time and the needed serenity to do such things, but having this site made me realize that cats have ensconced themselves in it permanently and comfortable and for now they don’t even think about leaving.
On paper or from clay, it seems to imply that they know well what am I in need for - exactly not-being-in-a-hurry, more home life, even a bit of laziness.
Here are two specimens, that I love much.

First this charming one. Because he is always thinking for food, I gave him a magnet - to be close to the refrigerator. :-)

The classical spoiled lazy guy

We can learn many things from the cats. I admire their natural strength and elegance and the amazing ability to relax. Anywhere. Anytime.

Rub my tummy, please

And here it is the little pensive wanderer, who misses adventures and new lands:

Dreaming of distant travels...

He read a lot about the places that want to visit. But home is taking him back and it is getting harder to break the habit and go on the road.

His eyes are full with nostalgy

He is also a big retro-fan and is born with the sense of good style. Always wanted to be a ship cat. He has heard that in the ship holds is full with rats, who knows the taste of rum and salt sea water. But he is not afraid, only curious to meet them.

His favorite music is swing

Terribly curious.

House by the sea

Saturday, August 9th, 2008

Maybe many people feel the same, but my fingers just cannot stay without doing something.

Whatever thing I spot, I always start to think that it could be turned into something else, usually some kind of toy (although sometimes it happens to be also something useful).
:-)
In the Sea garden in Bourgas there are some trees (we have them in Sofia as well), but unfortunately I never can remember their name. They have leaves a bit like the maple, thorny little ball-shaped fruits (which are not good to eat) and beautiful light rind.

The pieces of rind are tempting, they look to me like ready to use slices of veneer. I have used them before to make freakish greetings (it works also with pine-tree rind)q but now during the short vacation I did this funny little house:

=Little house...

It has owners, although are a bit carelessly. It will be obviously windy there during the winter, but they just don’t care.

... from tree rind

They love each other and are happy together. They have He-dog and She-cat.

They arevery hospitable

They decided to live in Bourgas, by the sea. There they feel happier and free.

And if sometimes they feel a little bored, they listen to the music of the wind, who is playing with these sea shells:

Sea bells

… it seems that the shells are telling stories about all the amazing things and great secrets, hidden in the Big water…

The sea is talking

:-)

Cat stories

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

Hmm, this one is more “looking like a cat” than being a cat indeed.

So self-confident

He is very positive, always smiling to the world.

Full with hope and faith

He is never in a bad mood, likes the sun and enjoys the rain, too.
Respects typography, but from few days is trying to read all these Love Stories. Especially likes the one with the cake and the sugar.:-)

Wish I was so positive

He is looking for Love and new friends, so he is wearing this heart everywhere - as a friendly sign and to be sure that this time he won’t be misunderstood.

Sometimes...everybody needs somebody to hug him and tell him that everything will be just fine

This guy was also my first try with white clay from the sort that dries without baking. But I still prefer to work with the old natural brown clay. :-)
